A baby was taken to hospital, as a precautionary measure following a chip pan fire in a flat on Gill Bent Road. The baby’s mother smelled smoke in the early hours of the morning and called the fire brigade. The 21-month-old girl was given oxygen then taken to Stepping Hill Hospital.
Watch commander Paul Cartridge remarked that: “[they] would have been alerted to the fire earlier if there had been a battery in the smoke alarm.”
